We’ve always touted the numerous benefits of breastmilk and we advocate that as many moms as possible breastfeed their babies. From improving baby’s immune system to reducing mom’s future risk of breast cancer, breast milk serves a lot of great purposes. Now it looks like one of those purposes could be making jewelry. Yes, you heard me right, breastmilk jewelry is now a thing and it looks like it just might be here to stay.

So, what exactly is breastmilk jewelry? Well, it’s pretty much what it sounds like, jewelry made from a woman’s breastmilk. The jewelry can range from necklaces and rings to bracelets and lockets. Regardless of what type of jewelry you have, they all have one thing in common and that is that they are made from breastmilk.

So, how in the heck do you make jewelry from of breastmilk? Since breastmilk jewelry hit the scene in 2013 there have been more and more companies that will take your breastmilk and turn it into a piece of jewelry for you. Every company’s technique differs a little bit but the basics are pretty much the same. Step 1: Mom expresses a few ounces of milk, and if you want to do the robot while you pump, don’t worry, this is a judgement free zone!

Step 2: You package the breast milk and send it to the jewelry maker.

Step 3: The breast milk is either mixed with a resin that hardens it and allows it to be shaped into a piece of jewelry or the milk is dried out and the powder is then mixed with a liquid resin that hardens and shapes it.

Step Four: Rock your breastmilk jewelry! Regardless of the technique used, what you end up with is a piece of jewelry that it usually a bit cloudy with a whitish or yellowish color.
